Excluding special items Monsanto expects to earn $5.10 to $5.60 per share in fiscal year 2016, unchanged from previous guidance, Preete told investors.
Last month, the company had forecast fiscal 2016 earnings of $4.44 to $5.01 a share.
Analysts had expected the company to report a profit of 6 cents per share for the quarter ending Nov. 30.
Monsanto shares fell $1.22, or 1.3 percent, to $93.05 by 12:02 ET.
On Tuesday, Monsanto said in a statement it would have larger one-time restructuring charges than previously estimated. |

Monsanto To Go On Fake Trial In Kangaroo Court, But Not Without Opposition |
-13 |
2016-10-13 00:00:00 |
The tribunal is not governed by the United Nations nor by the International Criminal Court, an international treaty-based court not affiliated with the UN.
Using the guidelines of both for their trial, the Monsanto Tribunal grasps for authenticity for a glorified meeting of the who’s who of anti-biotech science deniers, during which they will undoubtedly find the absent defendant guilty.
Genetic engineering or “GMO” technologies aren’t limited to use by large corporations, nor are genetically engineered crops the only patented varieties.
The tribunal, explains its website, will rely on “the ‘Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights’ adopted at the UN in 2011,” and will “assess potential criminal liability on the basis of the Rome Statue (sic) that created the International Criminal Court in The Hague in 2002.”Let’s be clear.
Even non-GMO and organic seeds are often patented. |

No, Monsanto Is Not Going On Trial For Crimes Against Humanity |
-18 |
2015-12-07 00:00:00 |
“Monsanto on trial for crimes against nature and humanity,” a headline for The Ecologist declared on Sunday.
Other fringe websites reported similar news of the so-called International Monsanto Tribune set to take place in the Hague, the seat of Dutch government, in October of next year.
Make no mistake, this is a group of organic movement proponents wielding non-GMO torches and artisan pitchforks on the hunt for a symbolic evil demon.
Nevertheless, the group organizing the tribunal is doing its best to paint the event as a legitimate trial.
Most of the tribunal leaders have one thing in common: they are part of organic movement special interests, and they all demonize creators of Genetically Modified Organisms. |

Monsanto CEO returns $3 million in bonuses after accounting error |
-11 |
2016-02-10 00:00:00 |
Monsanto (MON) CEO Hugh Grant voluntarily returned more than $3 million in bonuses and stock awards after an SEC investigation found Monsanto had misstated earnings from its Roundup herbicide.
The SEC investigation didn't take issue with either Grant or Casale individually, or require them to return the money.
The program seemed to help sales get back on track, but that's because Monsanto wasn't taking into account how much the program cost.
Monsanto didn't admit any wrongdoing, but it has been ordered to pay an $80 million fine.
The program was intended to help boost sales that were being hurt by competition from cheaper, generic herbicides. |

Monsanto Whistle-Blower: $22 Million Richer, but Not Satisfied |

Although the impact amounted to only a few pennies a share during the period, in its February settlement with the S.E.C., Monsanto paid $80 million in penalties.
This puzzles Mr. Meissner, the whistle-blower’s lawyer, knowing what he does about the facts of the matter.
“Bringing cases against auditors would put a stop to a good deal of accounting fraud,” Mr. Meissner told me.
“He left Monsanto during the course of the investigation and went to work for another company in a similar position,” Mr. Meissner said.
Still, it was the whistle-blower who took the risks, Mr. Meissner said. |

As public funding for research falls and more academics have trouble obtaining government grants, they will turn increasingly to the private sector.
Harvard-Smithsonian declined to explain why Soon received the money, and said that simply acknowledging his ties to Donors Trust allows Soon to meet ethical standards.
Chassy then accessed this money to pay expenses for biotechnology outreach to scientists, policymakers and the public, but never disclosed Monsanto's involvement.
In response, the Senate passed the Physician Payments Sunshine Act, which requires companies to report money and gifts they give to physicians.
According to the Guardian newspaper, Donors Trust has dispensed nearly $120 million to more than 100 groups casting doubt on climate science. |

Monsanto to Pay $80 Million to Settle Charge of Improper Accounting |
-24 |
2016-02-10 00:00:00 |
A new rebate program was created in 2010, under which Monsanto paid $44.5 million to its two largest distributors.
The program was repeated the next year, and Monsanto deferred recording the rebate costs from 2010 into 2011.
PhotoMonsanto will pay $80 million in penalties to the Securities and Exchange Commission to settle claims that it misstated earnings after failing to properly account for the costs of a sales rebate program for its flagship herbicide product, Roundup.
Roughly a third of Monsanto’s Roundup sales that year occurred in the fourth quarter, when the rebate program was introduced.
Monsanto delayed reporting the costs of the rebate program until 2010. |

On Monday, DuPont, Monsanto’s largest competitor, cut its forecast for 2015 earnings, citing weak agriculture markets in Brazil and the dollar’s strength against the real.
Profit will fall to $5.10 to $5.60 a share in the 12 months that began Sept. 1, excluding restructuring costs, from $5.73 a year earlier, Monsanto said Wednesday in a statement. |

Monsanto Cuts Net Income Forecast on Expanded Restructuring |

2015-11-10 00:00:00 |
Monsanto Co., the world’s largest seed company, cut its full-year earnings forecast because of additional expenses associated with the expansion of a cost-cutting plan it announced last month.
You will now receive the Business newsletter Politics The latest political news, analysis, charts, and dispatches from Washington.
The cost cuts come as Monsanto tries to acquire a competing chemical business to expand in pesticides beyond Roundup herbicide.
That compares with a projection made a month earlier of $4.44 to $5.01, with as much as 59 cents of restructuring expenses.
The company said the expanded restructuring program will save $500 million annually by the end of fiscal 2018. |

Cancer Questions, Controversy and Chorus at EPA Glyphosate Meetings |
-23 |

Both said their own assessments were largely in line with the EPA view, that glyphosate is not a cause of cancer.
The EPA did not invite either BfR or EFSA to travel to the United States to deliver the support for glyphosate safety, according to Steven Knott, the EPA official who oversaw the meeting logistics.
The EPA looked at both published studies as well as unpublished studies conducted by industry players like Monsanto, according to Perron.
Some scientists were concerned that the EPA was violating its own guidelines in discounting data from various studies that show positive associations between glyphosate and cancer.
Glyphosate is the world's most widely used herbicide and is the key ingredient in Monsanto Co.'s Roundup brand. |

Mentions of genetic engineering (GE) technology, seemingly without fail, result in “but Monsanto” protests, along with amalgamated concerns about food.
Injecting big bad Monsanto fears into public perception of GMO has been a brilliant tactic--the phenomenon is hardly a fluke.
Most people don’t realize that non-GMO and organic agriculture uses pesticides too, albeit different, and often naturally-derived ones.
In the public psyche, the term GMO has become synonymous with Monsanto and the evils the agricultural company symbolizes.
Take the Organic Consumers Association, an anti-GMO lobby group largely funded by the “natural food” and organic industries. |

Monsanto to Pay $80 Million to Resolve SEC Accounting Claims |
-14 |
2016-02-09 00:00:00 |
Monsanto Co. will pay $80 million to settle a U.S. regulator’s claims that the company improperly accounted for certain expenses tied to customer rebates for weed-killer Roundup.
Three accounting and sales executives also agreed to pay penalties to settle allegations against them, the agency said.
While the incentive led to higher sales, Monsanto delayed recording the costs associated with it until 2010, the agency said.
In June, the regulator fined Computer Sciences Corp. $190 million for manipulating financial results and clawed back pay from former executives.
The St. Louis-based company, which settled with the SEC without admitting or denying wrongdoing, agreed to hire a consultant to examine its accounting controls and policies. |

55 Years After Agent Orange Was Used In Vietnam, One Of Its Creators Is Thriving Here |

Herbicides, including Agent Orange, had been stored at this former airstrip and the land was highly contaminated.
Monsanto also claims no responsibility for Agent Orange, saying the company is itself completely separated, apart from in name, from the version of Monsanto that aided in the creation of Agent Orange.
That has since become Vietnam’s official stance on Agent Orange on the diplomatic front.
While Lam doesn’t affiliate Agent Orange with Monsanto, he does know the feeling of community that Monsanto created.
Instead it acknowledges a number of dire conditions, diseases and fatalities as “presumed” to be associated with Agent Orange exposure in its own veterans. |

As dicamba-resistance is added to other crops, the technology may eventually be on 250 million acres, Monsanto told investors Aug. 17.
There’s just something about the herbicide dicamba that’s always made it hell on soybean and cotton crops.
And now he feels compelled to buy the engineered Monsanto seeds to avoid injury next season.
Xtend cotton hit the market last year, and the soybeans debuted this year.
For folks like Landon Hayes, who grows earlier-generation soybeans in Campbell, Missouri, the consequences have been costly. |
